Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 8 cups)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup pure maple syrup

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped pecans, toasted

Additional maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes with the chopped toasted pecans. Toss gently to distribute the pecans evenly.

Whisk the Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until completely blended.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and pecans. Gently fold the mixture to ensure all the bread is coated with the custard.

Chill: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).

Preheat Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap and bake the French toast for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set. You may want to tent it with aluminum foil if it browns too quickly.

Serve: Let it cool for about 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with additional maple syrup drizzled over the top and a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.
