4 medium zucchinis, thinly sliced

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 cup heavy cream

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven:

    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

      Prepare the Zucchini:

        In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced zucchini and onion, sautéing until they start to soften, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and continue to cook for another minute.

          Make the Cream Mixture:

            In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, eggs, dried thyme, dried oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined. Stir in half a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and all of the grated Parmesan cheese.

              Assemble the Gratin:

                In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sautéed zucchini and onion mixture. Pour half of the cream mixture over the zucchini layer. Repeat with the remaining zucchini mixture and cream mixture.

                  Top with Cheese:

                    Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the layered dish.

                      Bake:

                        Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.

                          Cool and Serve:

                            Once baked, remove the gratin from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired, before serving.
