Preheating your oven is a crucial step in the baking process, particularly when making breakfast bars. By preheating the oven to the appropriate temperature (usually around 350°F or 175°C), you ensure that your bars bake evenly, resulting in the perfect texture. An oven that’s not fully heated can lead to undercooked centers or overly dry edges. Thus, allowing your oven to reach the designated temperature before placing your bars inside is essential for achieving optimal results.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup almond flour

1/2 cup chopped raw almonds

1/4 cup ground flaxseed

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Wet Ingredients:

1/3 cup honey or maple syrup (for a vegan option)

1/3 cup almond butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

Fruits:

1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries (if using frozen, do not thaw)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang to make removal easier.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, almond flour, chopped almonds, ground flaxseed, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Mix well until evenly combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together honey or maple syrup, almond butter, vanilla extract, and applesauce until smooth.

Blend Wet and Dry: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until the mixture is well combined. Fold in the blueberries gently, being careful not to break them apart.

Transfer to Baking Pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Use a spatula to press it down firmly for a compact layer.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and Cut: Remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out from the pan and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once cool, cut into squares or bars.

Store: Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
